December 31, 2024 | Sisters To Lease School

We would like to share a Newsday article published last week.  You can read the article HERE.

While the Sisters of Mercy indicated via their communication to us in March (SEE HERE) that they would not lease the building for a school, they have in fact decided to lease it to the Long Island School for the Gifted.

This is yet another sad day to our story.  Words like “confusion”, “abandoned”, “betrayed” come to mind.  Many of us embody and live the principals we were taught at Mercy…compassion, mercy, kindness, and use your God-given talents to better the world.  We truly love Mercy and would have shepherded her through the next century. So to not be given a chance to do so nor even a conversation for a plan to be heard? This leaves us feeling confused, abandoned, betrayed - by those who taught us to be compassionate and to show mercy.

It will be one-year next week, when we received the shocking news that Mercy was closing, filling our 2024 with much heartache and sadness. We pray that 2025 can bring us all some level of peace.
